To ensure that methods to minimize impacts are working, PT Newmont Minahasa Raya (PT NMR) conducts regular, comprehensive monitoring for air and water quality, stream sedimentation, sea water quality, sea water sedimentation, sea water chemistry, fish flesh, coral reef health, fishing and the tailings deposit.
PTNMR is committed to meeting and exceeding Indonesian and US Environmental Standards. Through innovation in design and the use of state-of-the-art technology, the impact of the operation has been minimized by controlling sediment run-off and by the use of submarine tailing placement in deep water off the coast.
PTNMR’s submarine tailings placement system worked exactly as designed and permitted under the AMDAL. Environmental monitoring results from PTNMR, the Government of Indonesia as well as third parties all validate this fact.
